“Red” is a favorite color that I use in all aspects of design. My grandmother who was also a keen colorist always believed that a little red was necessary in any design feature whether this be in the home, paintings, and or advertising. Red is such a passionate color and we are inspired by all the different hues of red. I too have been raised to believe that red is the color of artist and must be used when promoting action.

Red is a personal color choice. My grandmother always said a little bit of red is never enough and she should know, her home was predominately red and this was in the 1940′s. She was a women of intellect and a colorist of interior design. Sadly she was well ahead of her genre and was never recognized by her family for her unique talent until recently. Great article!

Interesting to hear that you would stay away from red when designing your websites. Any particular reason behind this? Or is it just a personal choice?
A few interesting points made, but I think you may have used a few too many examples, you’re making me see red! In all seriousness, I think that when a website is going to use red, it needs to incorporate some white into it. Looking at some of the sites with just red on makes the page feel heavy, before you’ve even looked at the content and/or images. I think the only way you can get away with it would be something along the lines of a Cartridge Shop or printer specialist, where they specialise in the use of colours.
